'Our exclusive range of Italian hand crafted beers'

Although at Good Italian Wine, we are extremely passionate about our wine, we also have a passion for the other great products produced in the country we love so much. Italy is establishing a reputation for its superb hand crafted beers similar to the Belgian style based on high quality ingredients and purist production methods. We have come across by chance 3 such Micro-breweries and simply had to stock their beers. They are complex, rich in flavour and oozing finesse, a bit like ours wines! If you like great Italian wine with good food then I am sure you would enjoy these beers which also match up extremely well with some gastronomic classics!

Amarcord

Location: Rimini and Pian di Molino, Puglia.

Passion, Tradition and Experience

Amarcord beers were first made several years ago in a small Rimini brewery by a group of young friends, all great beer experts and strongly linked to their local roots in Rimini, the same city as the great director Federico Fellini and his famous autobiographical film 'Amarcord'.

The name Amarcord is in fact important for ours beers because this word in Rimini's dialect means 'I remember', and Amarcord beers offer a splendid memory of the wholesome and authentic flavours of the past.

Just a couple of years into the new millennium, it became necessary for Amarcord to expand its production at a new location. After a long search for a source of pure water that would be ideal for brewing a site was found in the Apennine Mountains, surrounded by unpolluted woodland and mountains, a spring of remarkable purity was discovered, exactly what was needed for the production of the Amarcord craft beers. Our master brewers have contributed their expertise and perfectionism and by choosing the best traditional Italian recipes, they have created genuine beers of an exceptionally high quality. Oscar winning beers for true connoisseurs'!

How to brew a true hand crafted beer!

How to brew a true hand crafted beer

1. Grinding: Malt is the main ingredient needed to brew good beer. This precious product obtained from Barley is ground to a fine powder in the mill.
2. Mashing: The ground malt is transferred to a mixing vat where very hot pure water is added to make a thick mash. By adding more hot water to the mash and gradually increasing the temperature, the amides in the malt powder are transformed into sugars.
3. Boiling: When the thickest part of the malt mash has been eliminated, the remaining liquor is boiled for several minutes to produce the Wort needed for fermentation. It is at this point that the hop flowers are added, giving our hand crafted beer its unique flavour and slight but typical bitter taste. The Wort is then cooled and transferred to the fermenting vats.
4. Cooling: here the Wort is cooled ready for fermentation.
5. Selected natural beer yeasts are now added, which convert the sugars in the Wort into alcohol and carbon dioxide, making a drink we can finally call Beer!
6. Maturation: The Beer is left to settle in maturation vats for several weeks, the time needed to bring the flavour that is the prime feature of hand crafted Beers.
7. Filtration: This is the final process before bottling and ensures that the Beer remains clear and transparent. However the Amarcord Beers are only lightly filtered to ensure that none of the essential flavours are lost.
