This is a beautifully crafted wine from Le Marche in middle Italy. The vibrant purple hued appearance leads to a fresh summery perfume of rose, strawberry, Morello cherry and liquorice root. The uncomplicated juiciness of the palate begs for a second or third glass!
This Frascati represents what the wine does best, delicate and extremely easy drinking, a superb, pleasant white wine. The nose is tropical with Melon and white peach leading to some more complex earthy and herbal notes. The palate is very fresh and well balanced with no harsh edges, fresh and sappy, this is wine for all occasions but best enjoyed from an ice bucket on a warm summers evening.

This is Di Majo Norante’s entry level wine but it is far from that. Made from very ripe Sangiovese berries, the red fruit aromas leap out of the glass. The palate is crisp, refreshing and pleasing and typical southern Italian style. A lovely juicy wine for grilled meats or ragu of minced lamb and pork.
This wine has a surprisingly deep golden colour and pungent nose dominated by rich stone fruits and honey, blossoms and straw. The nose is very southern in character and reminds you of hot blustery days on the coast with a plate of sea food! The palate is also full and expressive with bitter almonds and a salty twang added to the peachy fruit character. This is a wine with big character and individualism. Perhaps it lacks the elegance of more expensive Falanghina from Campania but it is very drinkable and enjoyable and a fabulous advert for the wines of Molise! I drank it with my staple fish and Pasta dish of Spaghetti, tomatoes, Coley fillet and chilli!
Along with Cantori 2004 from Accadia this is the finest Verdicchio I have ever tasted and it is made by one of Italy's outstanding exponents of 100% natural wine making! Large scale producers the world over could learn a lot from Colle Stefano! The wine is searing in its freshness and pure minerality. The pale colour and youthful nose leaps out and offers crisp apple, lime, green herbs and grasses. The palate is razor sharp and breathtakingly fresh with an almond, mineral complexity on the finish. Fabulous wine and for those whose daily dose of fresh Oysters are getting tired of the ubiquitous and disappointing Chablis, try Colle Stefano!
Pecorino can be an acquired taste. Traditionally it is made in a semi oxidised oak style that is rich and nutty and benefits from bottle age. 'Le Merlattaie' is however a more modern variation on that theme. The green-yellow hue is bright and youthful and the nose clean and floral with distinctive aromas of banana, apple, hazelnut and white plum. The balanced rounded palate has tingly acidity, medium body and lush intense flavours ideal for partnership with seafood risotto or firm salty cheeses!
This is an unusual wine and a style that is found often in Italy but is not always appreciated in the UK. Gutturnio is the most famous wine of the Colli Piacentini, its name historically derived from the traditional gutturnium jug that people drank the wine from. It is a generally a blend of 55-70% Barbera, grapes which grow in profusion on the banks of the river Po, Italy's largest river, with Croatina and/or Bonarda filling out the remaining portions of the blend. It can be produced in a variety of styles ranging from dry to slightly sweet, still to slightly sparkling. Under DOC regulations harvest yields are restricted to a maximum of 12 tons per hectare and alcohol levels of the wines must reach a minimum of 12%. The charm of Gutturnio is in its intense ripe fruit character which marks it out as quintessentially Emilian and the high acidity and frothiness of the 'frizzante' style make it an ideal foil for the fatty meat dishes of the Po valley.
Type: Semi Sparkling (Frizzante) full bodied red wine
A lovely drop of Vernaccia this, restraint and finesse are the calling cards but the subtle citrus and peach skin fruit is there supported by lovely acidity and body. The classic almond twist of Vernaccia makes this a great wine for Barbecued fish and vegetables.
This beautiful dry white wine really struck me when I first tasted it at the recent Vinitaly wine show in Verona. It has a bright straw yellow, intense and persistent nose and taste that reminds you of acacia and citrus fruits. The 09 vintage is one in which the positive characters of each variety are noticeable in the glass. There are nuances typical of Sauvignon with its delicately grassy notes and also some of the Chardonnay’s rounded overtones of green apple, grapefruit peel and elderberry. This is a super white wine and a real crowd pleaser, ideal for dinner parties and excellent with artichokes, gnocchi or grilled fish
Sangiovese has never been so approachable and juicy as in the hands of San Patrignano. The vibrant ruby red colour leads to a lovely nose redolent of flowers and soft red fruits like raspberry and cranberry. The smooth and fruity palate is youthful and fresh, medium bodied and perfectly balanced. Super wine and ideal for summer BBQs! The new 08 vintage is even better as they have made changes in the vineyard that have resulted in a more concentrated wine. 08 Aulente is fabulous and my de-fault red for Pasta, grilled meat dishes and general all round fantastic drinking!
