The vineyards of Terre di Giumara lie 15 km inland from the winery at Marsala. There are found on the gentle slopes Salemi and the combination of sandy soils and a northern facing aspect make them ideal for the production of aromatic fleshy white wines.
This sizeable family estate is run with great care by Stefano Caruso and Mario Minini. They have 120 hectares of vineyard and the winery is located in an ol 'Baglio' in the heart of the Marsala wine producing quarter of the old town. Although the location dates back to the 19th Century and the family have been producing wine for generations, Caruso e Minini are very much in the forefront of winemaking technology with an incredibly well equipped cellar. The wines are often sited by pundits as being particularly complex and profound for such a modest price tag and they truly reflect the modern face of wine in one of the most ancient production areas in Europe!
Tasting Note: A fairly deep golden colour indicates the southern origin of this wine. The nose is intensely aromatic with notes of citrus, melon, white peach and musk. The palate is dry yet fleshy and slightly oily with great balance, acidic freshness and a snappy finish. I used to eat a lot of 'Insalata di Polipo' (Salad of Octopus, Olive oil, garlic, parsley and lemon juice, delicious!) when I was studying in Sicily, this is a perfect match for this Sicilian delight!
