This fascinating new wine from Sandi Skerk combines all the fine qualities of the 4 different varieties in the blend with the low yields and purist wine making techniques of the estate. The result is a wine of breathtaking definition, complexity and Carso character. The wines of the Carso are surely Italy's most unusual and in Skerk you discover personality and flavour rarely found in the rest of the world. The nose has complex aromas of red orange, grapefruit, light raspberry and geranium, white currants and a touch of red pepper and wet moss. Unfiltered and fermented in oak, the wine is rich and creamy yet filled with mandarin orange fruit, toasty almonds and minerals, the acidity is high maintaining the wine's freshness and elegance. For high quality white wine making not unlike the incredible wines of Josko Gravner, you have to try Ograde.

Ca la Bionda's flagship wine is a stylish and incredibly pure example of high quality, traditional Amarone from the superb Cru Ravazzol vineyard. The wine's graceful nose and palate of fresh and dried red fruits combined with sublime balance and power makes this 'amongst the best expressions of the type' (Gambero Rosso 2007). Fabulous Amarone.

Allegrini Amarone, one of the great wines of its type despite its now relatively large production and commercial success. It is a superbly well-structured, complex, elegant and velvety wine, with an intense ruby red colour. It has a warm and spicy bouquet, with an aroma of raisins, currant, prune, flowers and hints of cardamom. It is very full bodied and powerful on the palate where the fruit turns to fresh black currant, coating the firm tannins and giving a long, fresh finish of fruit and mineral. Superfresh and well-structured. It is delicious now, but would be best to wait until 2010.
Type: Dry full bodied red
Varietal: 80% Corvina Veronese, 15% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta
Alcohol: 15.4% abv

This is a delicious easy drinking lightly sparkling style of Prosecco with a mischievous sapidity as an Italian would say. The nose suggests blanched almonds, white flowers and pear skin; the palate is soft and clean with apple and quince fruit flavours with a naturally off-dry finish.
Type: Lightly sparkling off dry white
Varietal: 100% Prosecco
Alcohol: 11% abv

The wines show all of the soft subtle fruit that one would expect from Puglian wines but with a certain added freshness that is often lacking. Mocavero believe that Puglian wines can express elegance as well as rich fruit and this characteristic is ever present throughout their range!
Type: Dry full bodied red wine
Varietal: 100% Negroamaro
Alcohol: 13% abv

Puglia's signature grape variety does superbly well in the Salento trained to Albarello bushes in the sandy soils. The variety tends towards uppish alcohol and lower acidity when not kept in check but Mocavero's style has loads of freshness and finesse. The well balanced structure and alcohol complements the dark damson fruit and hints of spice. Lovely wine for grilled meat dishes!
Type: Dry medium bodied red wine
Varietal: 100% Primitivo
Alcohol: 14% abv

The Riserva Salice from Mocavero is an example of top Puglian wine making. In this wine all the heat of the climate comes through in the glass with big dark black fruits, motes of mocha, cinnamon, vanilla, toast and spice all come through on the sumptuous palate. The wine unfolds in layers in the glass and the weight is held in check by crisp acidity and firm tannins. This is a rich red wine for hearty meals and is a great taste of the south.

This is a fabulous example of single varietal Chardonnay from a warm climate area on the Salento peninsula. The cool breeze flows in from the Adriatic and keeps the acidity up in the fruit maintaining the freshness and balance. Aromas of peach, green fruit and citrus lead to an elegant palate cut by sappy acidity, excellent for fish dishes!
Type: Dry medium bodied white wine
